The world has changed since February 24, 2022. In Germany, we are also feeling the consequences of the war that Russia has unleashed against its neighboring country.
But what do we really know about Ukraine - besides the daily terrible news?
Russia’s war is not only directed against the country and its people, but also affects Ukrainian culture and its independent history, the existence of which Russia denies or seeks to destroy. However, in Ukraine, over the centuries, an unbridled desire for freedom and democracy has arisen, like almost nowhere else in the world. The stages on this path were the free Cossack republic of the 17th century and in our time the Revolution of Dignity on the Maidan in Kyiv.
Berlin actors Jan Uplegger and Mareile Metzner invite you on a literary journey through Ukraine. The musical accompaniment for this journey will be provided by refugee singers Iryna Lazer, Iryna Razin, and Natalia Kuprinenko, accompanied by the prominent Ukrainian musician Yuriy Seredin on the piano.
This creates an atmospheric portrait of this country in the heart of Europe.
After that, we want to talk to the audience about the past and future of Ukraine. Ukrainian artists will share with us their refugee experiences.
